Low Heel Cowboy Boots

Low Heel Cowboy Boots are basically an adaptation of the original cowboy boots. Cowboy boots would have originally had a high heel, complimented by a high shaft and would rarely use and fastening or lacing of any kind. Of course, over time this has changed and the high heel has been swapped for a low heel.

These riding boots have been around for literally hundreds of years. Cowboys needed an alternative to soft footwear; they needed something that would protect them. So by the 16th century they came up with cowboy boots, something that was tall, durable and would protect them from the lower leg downwards. The popularity of these boots quickly grew and by the 1800s, they were being sold all over the world, in a range of different materials.

Low heel cowboy boots are slightly different to normal boots. Traditional boots would have used an exceptionally high heel. This heel was extremely important as it would help the horse riders to lock into the stirrups. The low heel was introduced as a matter of comfort rather than practicality.

Traditional boots are called Western style boots and these are what the cowboys would have worn. Low heel cowboy boots are basically Roper boots, an adaptation of the Western boot. They use a less pointy toe and a smaller heel; both of these new features help with comfort and make them much easier to walk in.

The tall leather shaft of the Western style boot is still used in many Roper boots. Low heel cowboy boots can be very fashionable footwear, and many people still like the look that the tall shaft gives. That being said, the majority of boots will go for a slightly shorter shaft, as this will give just as much support, but will make the boot slightly lighter, which again makes the boot easier to walk in.

Over the years many manufacturers have started manufacturing low heel cowboy boots. The demand for these boots has never been as big as it is today and more and more people are looking to get a pair. Checking out the major manufacturers that offer the highest quality materials is certainly the best way to start. Some top quality manufacturers include Loblan, Old Gringo, Tony Lama, Dan Post, Twisted X, Lucchese and Corral.
