Cowboy Boot Accessories
Cowboy boots are a large part of our past and current culture. The boots symbolize a rugged and durable person that is ready to get things done and make things happen. The cowboy boot itself makes an unmistakable statement for anyone that wears them. There are times though when you want to add an accent to your boots in order to emphasize the occasion to which you are wearing the boots. In other words, some of these accents are fashionable and necessary for wearing the boots to more formal gatherings, and other of these Cowboy Boot Accessories are for adding durability to the boot itself.
The fashion cowboy boot accessories include items such as a boot kiltie. The kiltie fits on the top of the boot and ends just before the beginning of the shaft. A kiltie can be made of silver, gold, nickel, or pewter. It usually includes an emblem or design that compliments the boots. The kiltie is a good way to make the boot look more appropriate for formal occasions. The origin of the kiltie was its use as an extra guard against wear and tear that tends to occur on the top of the boot. But it eventually evolved as one of the more popular and fashionable cowboy boot accessories.
The next boot accessories that are popular are heel caps and fashion tips. These also originated as a way to further protect the boot but over time became a way to make boots look nicer and acceptable as something that can be worn for business and pleasure, and not just for riding. The heel caps and boot tips are, like the kiltie, normally made of a decorative metal with some sort of stamped design. These items dress up a boot very well and are acceptable for both men and women.
The bootstrap is another cowboy boot accessory that is normally associated with just women's cowboy boots. The traditional bootstrap on a cowboy boot is located at the top of the shaft of the boot and serves as something to grip as you pull on your boots. But the bootstraps that are cowboy boot accessories are the ones that you oftentimes see on women's boots, these are the straps that are decorative and wrap around the heel and under the sole in front of the heel. They also usually have some sort of buckle that is worn on the outer side of the boot. These straps add an extra dimension to the boot and look very attractive as an accessory that compliments many brands of boots.
Of all the cowboy boot accessories that have origins as a utilitarian way to protect the boot, the one that has always been for decoration only is the drop over chains that hang across different parts of the boot depending on your personal style. These chains are decorative only and are more often used as women cowboy boot accessories than for men.
