Costume Cowboy Boots

Costume Cowboy Boots tend to fall into one of the two categories of fashion or dressing up. Yet whichever category, the origin and style is likely to be similar. Costume cowboy boots originate from the boot that was produced by the cowboys, many years ago. These horse riders needed a strong and sturdy boot that would not buckle under pressure, and nowadays this design has been adapted to create striking pairs of costume cowboy boots.

Cowboys needed a strong and sturdy boot for riding horses. This may seem like fairly basic criteria for producing a boot. In fact, they needed to ensure that the boot would not need lacing, which is why the loose fit keeps them gripped to the feet. They also needed to ensure that the high heel was big enough to grip the stirrups to avoid becoming dismounted from the horse, and that the boot would go easily into the stirrup. All these points led to the high shaft, high heel and pointed toe that are seen in cowboy boots.

Of course, the material was just as important as anything else. It needed to be rigid to avoid injury on rough terrain, but it also needed to be durable so the cowboy boots would last the test of time. They originated in the 1500s and by the 1800s people across the globe were wearing them, not just for riding horses, but as a fashionable piece of footwear as well!

Generally, these boots were made of cowhide leather, but costume cowboy boots are made from all kinds of materials. Generally, they are made of some kind of faux material, from cowhide to alligator skin. Even though the costume cowboy boots are not designed to ride horses with, it is worth taking into account the styles that are on offer. There are usually two different types of styles available.

The first is the Western boot, this is considered to be the original boot that the cowboys really would have worn, but this boot would have been fairly impractical for walking. Costume cowboy boots of this style however, will have been adapted and can look striking.

The other is the Roper boot. Essentially, these cowboy boots are based on the original Western style boot, but they have a few minor modifications. To reduce the weight, the shaft of the boot is reduced in size. Along side this the pointy toe is rounded slightly, which increases comfort. Finally, the heel is reduced in size, which helps to allow the person wearing the boots to walk.
